AI Models for Marketers: A Real-World Look at Manus AI vs. ChatGPT

by Lisa Peyton and her team of AI superheroes

I was up EARLY (AGAIN) this morning eager to put new Manus AI Pro subscription to the test. Access is now available to what many are calling the biggest advance in agentic AI YET. You can learn more about this powerful yet mysterious AI agent tool in my recent post on the topic.

As an AI content marketer and educator, I’m constantly asked which LLM is best for marketing tasks. And the answer is always – it’s complicated – and it’s getting more complicated by they day. So, I decided to put two of the biggest players in the agentic AI space –Manus AI and ChatGPT – to the test.

And I didn’t go light. I shelled out for the Pro accounts on both, each running around $200/month. With that kind of investment, my expectations were sky-high—and rightly so. My initial take:

Manus IS game-changing. It can run concurrent, complex tasks like a pro and the user-interface is much easier to use than ChatGPT’s Task feature. The depth and quality of the output outperformed ChatGPT in almost every test I ran. I asked it do a content audit on Nike (I’ll be writing more on that later) and it took about 20 mins but came back with nearly 20 files AND screenshots of visual examples. So far, ChatGPT can’t do that!

The downside is that sometimes Manus might give you TOO much information to read through and exporting all that juicy content is problematic. For larger jobs, there’s too much data to copy and paste and the tool doesn’t have the capability of exporting one, integrated visual PDF – YET. I’m sure that is on the way. You can however export and download PDF’s of smaller files, which is a GREAT feature.

Would I trade in ChatGPT for Manus? NO WAY! Manus is taking it’s proper place among my team of AI super heroes and ChatGPT is still my MVP. Especially with it’s latest image generator that can now generate text perfectly.

Let’s dive into more details on how these platforms stacked up when faced with three real-world content marketing tasks we all wrestle with.

The Test: 3 Everyday Content Marketing Tasks

To make this a fair fight, I gave both platforms identical assignments:

  1. AI News Summary: Pull together a solid digest of the latest AI marketing news.
  2. Target Audience Research: Unearth common questions from a defined audience segment.
  3. Competitive Analysis: Create a daily intel report on competitors’ moves.

What I wanted: speed, quality, depth, accuracy, and formatting that didn’t make me want to cry.

Speed Showdown: Who Gets It Done Faster?

TaskManus AIChatGPT
AI News Summary18 minutesSeconds
Target Audience Research15 minutes10 minutes
Daily Competitor Report22 minutesSeconds

The results? ChatGPT blew me away with its speed—cranking out two tasks almost instantly and taking just 10 minutes on the third. Manus AI was… deliberate, with every task taking 15+ minutes. If you’re racing against the clock, this is a clear differentiator.

But we know speed isn’t everything, right?

Quality & Depth: Let’s Talk Substance

AI News Summary

Manus AI went full deep-dive mode:

  • A polished “Top 3 Developments” breakdown
  • Insightful trend analysis
  • A timeline view of news with strategic takeaways
  • Importance ratings and tidy categorization

ChatGPT gave me a super quick hit:

  • A brief summary of competitor updates
  • Some listed trends, but not much beyond surface-level
  • Limited examples or strategic context

Target Audience Research

Manus AI (15 minutes):

  • Over 100 questions from the AI content marketing niche
  • Top 25 questions with intent + search data
  • A competitor gap analysis with strategy pointers
  • SEO keyword insights with trending metrics

ChatGPT (10 minutes):

  • Used a similar approach, but results were thinner
  • Did include citations (which I love)
  • Had a decent structure but needed more heft

Competitive Analysis

Manus AI (22 minutes):

  • Structured report with action-ready insights
  • Rich competitor profiles with real-time content reviews
  • Performance data across channels
  • Five actionable opportunities based on gaps

ChatGPT (seconds):

  • A generic snapshot, honestly
  • Lacked meaningful differentiation
  • Strategy felt vague—like it needed a human editor ASAP

The Scorecard: Where Each Tool Shines

  • Clear structure that reads like it came from a strategist
  • Automates complex tasks
  • Strong on strategic recommendations

Where ChatGPT Nails It:

  • Ridiculously fast, especially on simpler tasks
  • Great for tight deadlines or early drafts
  • Helpful for idea generation and quick overviews
  • Easy to integrate into fast-moving workflows

A Few Noteworthy Outputs

Manus AI’s Trend Spotting:

“Specialized AI Tools Replacing General-Purpose Applications… This trend indicates the maturation of AI in marketing, with tools becoming more tailored to industry-specific needs and workflows.”

ChatGPT’s Daily Summary:

“Over the past 24 hours, our primary competitors have demonstrated varying levels of activity across their digital platforms. Notably, Marketing AI Institute has been the most active, promoting AI-focused webinars and courses…”

So… Which Should You Use?

Use Manus AI when:

  • You need thorough research and nuanced analysis
  • Quality trumps speed
  • You’re running complex, repeatable workflows
  • You’re looking for strategic direction, not just data
  • You’ve got time to let it work its magic

Use ChatGPT when:

  • You need results yesterday
  • You’re cool with lighter insights that you’ll enhance
  • You’re under a deadline crunch
  • You’re just trying to get unstuck or started
  • You’re okay doing some polishing post-output

Final Take: Different Tools, Different Needs

There’s no one-size-fits-all AI. Manus AI is like your über-thorough strategist who takes a while but nails it. ChatGPT is your speedy assistant who gets it done fast but needs direction.

For most marketers, the sweet spot might be using both tools in tandem: let ChatGPT handle quick-turnaround needs, and pull in Manus AI for the big-picture strategy.

At $199–$200/month each, these aren’t budget tools. So make sure you’re investing based on what actually fits your workflow—not just the hype.
