Who I Am

Professor. Practitioner. Pioneer. I bridge the gap between academic research and real-world AI implementation to transform how brands connect with their audiences.

I’m Lisa Peyton, a University of Oregon professor, AI marketing strategist, and lifelong explorer of emerging technologies. My journey into AI began long before ChatGPT became a household name, rooted in a fascination with how technology can amplify human creativity rather than replace it. As an instructor at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communications, I developed and teach the school’s first AI fundamentals course, preparing the next generation of communicators for an AI-driven world. Simultaneously, I work with innovative brands like Microsoft and Intel to implement AI strategies that drive real business impact. This dual perspective of academic rigor meets hands-on implementation, shapes everything I do. Whether I’m in the classroom, on stage at Cannes Lions, or in the boardroom as a fractional Chief AI Officer, I bring both theoretical understanding and practical expertise to every engagement.

The Intersection of Art & Algorithm

My approach to AI is deeply influenced by my background in fine arts and media psychology. I see AI not as a cold, technical tool, but as a creative partner that can unlock new forms of expression and connection. This philosophy drove projects like Microsoft’s “Art of AI Experience,” where we used AI to create immersive art that engaged thousands of attendees at Microsoft Ignite.

I believe the most powerful AI implementations happen when we:

  • Honor human creativity while embracing machine capabilities
  • Focus on augmentation rather than automation
  • Build with ethics and empathy at the forefront
  • Create experiences that inspire rather than intimidate

Beyond The Bio

When I’m not teaching or consulting, you’ll find me:

  • Experimenting with the latest AI tools (often before they hit mainstream)
  • Creating AI-generated art that pushes creative boundaries
  • Walking by the river with my dog
  • Contributing to the AI ethics conversation through research and writing
  • Mentoring women in tech and marketing leadership roles

I’m based in Eugene, Oregon, but my work takes me around the world – from Silicon Valley boardrooms to global conference stages. Wherever I go, I carry the same mission: to democratize AI knowledge and empower professionals to harness its transformative power.

Let’s Shape the Future Together

Whether you’re looking to transform your team’s AI capabilities, bring cutting-edge insights to your next event, or navigate the AI revolution with strategic guidance, I’d love to connect.
